Nvidia will donate computing access worth $250 million over five years to UK researchers working on agentic AI safety and security. Most of the compute goes to the wider UK safety community, with named portions for Oxford, UCL, and Imperial College London.
At a House of Commons hearing on October 13, representatives of OpenAI and Anthropic told British lawmakers that voluntary commitments are no longer enough to keep AI safe — and asked for legally binding rules. Google DeepMind and Meta declined to take the same position.
Anthropic's Frontier Red Team published research warning that small AI models could soon work as self-replicating malware on consumer smart devices — carrying their own model weights as the payload and running inference directly on compromised hardware.
