xAI Launches The X Subscription, Bundling Grok and Cursor
xAI on October 12 launched The X Subscription, a single plan combining Grok, Grok Bot, Cursor, and X Premium. New customers can sign up now; the rollout goes global over the coming days.

xAI wants to be the only AI subscription on your credit card statement. On October 12, 2026, the company introduced The X Subscription, a single plan that folds Grok, Grok Bot, Cursor, and X Premium into one bill. New customers can sign up starting today, and the company says the rollout will reach everyone globally over the next few days.
What the bundle includes
The product covers the full path from thinking to building to sharing, in the company’s framing:
- Grok handles chat, voice, and image and video generation.
- Grok Bot provides AI teammates that do work on your behalf.
- Cursor supplies the coding agents, both local and cloud.
- X adds the checkmark, creator tools, and fewer ads — with higher tiers removing ads from the timeline entirely.
The most important mechanical change is the shared usage pool. Paid plans include a generous pool of Grok model usage that works across the Grok apps, the Grok tab on X, and Cursor. According to the announcement, each comparable new tier gives more usage-per-dollar than the plan it replaces, and every plan includes at least twice as much coding usage with xAI’s models as the comparable Cursor plan did.
Third-party models remain available in Cursor on the Premium tier and above, but they are billed separately at API list prices through top-ups — the shared pool covers Grok models only.
What happens to existing subscribers
Current SuperGrok, Cursor, and X Premium subscribers get a choice. The company is rolling out a switch option in account billing settings: keep the existing plan, or move to The X Subscription and receive a prorated refund for the old plan. Nothing is forced, at least for now. The structure effectively retires three standalone products — X Premium, SuperGrok, and Cursor’s own subscription — in favor of the bundle.
Why now
This has been building since the summer. SpaceX completed its acquisition of the AI coding company Cursor in August 2026. Grok Bot entered beta the same month. On September 12, product lead Maxime Prades said the team was working on unifying the subscription plans, with a rollout expected soon.
Early October brought leaks: a price card that surfaced on October 2 showed four tiers — Premium at $8, Plus at $30, Super at $100, and Ultra at $200 a month — under the working name “Xpass.” None of that pricing is official. xAI’s launch announcement lists no prices, and as of October 11–12, the company had not confirmed any tier names or dates publicly. Treat the leaked figures as unconfirmed until xAI publishes a price list.
What it means
Bundling is a margin play as much as a convenience play. Putting the social network, the chatbot, the agent, and the coding tool on one bill raises revenue per user and makes the subscription harder to cancel — you no longer drop Grok without also dropping Cursor.
It also reflects where the AI subscription market is heading. The standalone-chatbot era is ending; the value is in the bundle that covers thinking, coding, and publishing together. OpenAI and Anthropic still sell their models mostly on their own terms. xAI just made the most aggressive bundle move in the industry.
The open questions are practical: the exact tier prices, how the shared pool is measured, and whether the “more usage-per-dollar” promise survives contact with real billing. Those details will arrive as the global rollout completes in the coming days.
